Sony have detailed on their various blogs (EU Blog, US Blog) the content which will make up their ‘Welcome Back’ program as a good will gesture for the recent PSN outage. Users will be able to choose 2 Free PS3 or PSP games. The titles on offer will vary from region to region. Outlined below are the titles currently planned for European and North American SCEE users.

For those with PSP accounts, you will also be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list:

Rockstar Games releases their next hotly anticipated title L.A Noire on the 17th May (US) and 20th May (EU) 2011. You can choose to receive your Free PS3 or Free Xbox360 version of L.A Noire plus 2 other titles of your choice with freebieconsoles.co.uk. You can mix and match PS3, Xbox360 and Wii games.
L.A Noire is set in postwar 1940s Los Angeles the player controls LAPD Officer Cole Philips experiencing his rise through the ranks as a patrol-man, traffic detective, homicide, vice and arson. The game blends investigative gameplay, mystery, crime solving and will feature thrilling action sequences. There will be a number of optional side missions alongside the main story ones.
L.A Noire also features advanced face mapping technology offering unprecedented facial animation, capturing the actual actors performances. With all this increased performance capture data the game will be spread across 3 DVDs for the Xbox360 and a single Bluray for the PS3.
Rockstar Games have a fantastic openworld pedigree with the Grand Theft Auto series and the excellent Red Dead Redemption. L.A Noire looks set to build on their past achievements as well as offering a setting and gameplay not often seen in gaming.

Nick Caplin – Head of Communications, SCEE has just posted a blog on the PlayStation.eu site detailing a welcome back plan for PSN users . Outlined is the intention to offer users one month Free PSN Plus access plus the opportunity to download two Free PS3 games from a choice of five or if you are a PSP user two games from a choice of four. What the games will be is not yet know.

Rumours are circulating suggesting that Microsoft may be about to unveil their Xbox 360 successor at E3 in June. Nintendo have already confirmed their plans to show off their Wii successor at the Expo this year. Supposed reliable sources are claiming that early development kits have been seen in the wild, although these have been shot down by the developers themselves. If the rumours are true 2012 could be the year for the next generation in home consoles.
With all of Sony’s recent problems regarding PlayStation Network (PSN) and their online gaming division (SOE) being hacked it will be interesting to see if they will be in a position to respond with their next hardware iteration.
Still there is plenty of life left in the Xbox360 and PS3 with some fantastic titles set to be released this year and next. I am personally looking forward to L.A Noire, Mass Effect 3, Rage and Elder Scrolls Skyrim.
